- Muthuvel Pandian is a retired police officer who lives in Kodambakkam with his family. Muthuvel's son, ACP Arjun, is investigating Varman, an eccentric gangster operating from his base of operations in Arakkonam, who smuggles idols of deities and sells them to buyers abroad. Arjuna confronts Varman's slave Seenu and demands from him about Varman's whereabouts. - Grieving the loss of his son and partly blaming himself for raising him to be honest and fearless, Muthuvel goes after Seenu and kills him, forcing Vimal, an unknown local taxi driver, to help him dispose of the body. In turn, Varman's men try to kill Ritvik, Muthuvel's grandson, but Muthuvel manages to save him. Muthuvel tries to convince Varman to leave him and his family alone, but to no avail. - First, Muthuvel Psychiatrist S. Blackmails Dhandapani to provide shelter for his family. He then visits Narasimha, a reformed criminal living in Mandya, who gives him four of his sharp shooters. With the help of Narasimha's men, Muthuvel steals the idols of Varman that were being smuggled out and uses them to blackmail and humiliate Varman, who is about to kill his family. In response, Varman hires a Bihari gangster named Kamdev to send people to kill Muthuvel and his family at his home, but Muthuvel and Narasimha's men finish them off. After learning about Varman's goal of becoming Muthuvel, Kamdev reveals to him that Muthuvel was a former ruthless and charismatic jailer of Tihar Jail, who severely disciplined criminals but also helped them reform, thus gaining a large network of allies, including Kamdev. - Muthuvel corners Varman in his base with a hundred men sent by another ex-criminal Sikander Singh, but Varman reveals that Arjun is still alive and threatens to kill him. The two eventually reconciled: Varman would release Arjuna in exchange for receiving the famous ancient tiara currently protected in the temple at Mangalagiri. Muthuvel plans a heist involving Telugu actor Blast Mohan, the trustee of the temple where he keeps the crown. After various scams and with the help of a smuggler named Mathew in Mumbai, Muthuvel finally comes into possession of the Taj and hands it over to Varman. - Varman frees Arjuna, who reveals himself to be a corrupt police officer who wants to cut Varman's operations, ready to kill his own father for money. However, the fake Taj also hides a hidden camera, and Muthuvel watches their entire conversation. He along with Kamadeva, Vimal and his allies attack Varman's hideout, killing Varman and his men, while Narasimha protects Muthuvel's family and destroys Mathew Varman's smuggling operation. Later, Muthuvel offers Arjuna to surrender, but Arjuna refuses and tries to kill Muthuvel. However, Arjuna is shot dead by Narasimha's men.
