Dixitji knows that the British are eyeing Jhansi and want to annex the state. He realizes that his brave personality will play a crucial role in giving a tough fight against the British. The marriage takes place and as per tradition the king gives her a new name - 'Lakshmibai' (or Lakshmibai). Gangadhar's brother Sadashiv Rao was upset with all these incidents

He is friendly with the British and wants to usurp the throne. Lakshmibai, after a few years, gives birth to Damodar and she cannot contain her happiness. However his joy is short-lived as Sadashiva secretly poisons Damodar. Gangadhar, at the same time, also falls ill. Knowing that his death is near, he and Lakshmibai decide to adopt a son who will rule Jhansi in the future. To Sadashiva's dismay, his son is not adopted and instead, the courtier's son 'Anand Rao' is named as the heir. He was named Lakshmibai and he casually called her Damodar Rao.

dies and the British try to annex the throne. However, Lakshmibai surprises everyone as she decides to take the reins. She declares herself as the Queen of Jhansi and openly challenges the British. When the British force her to vacate the palace, she walks gracefully into the village and is welcomed and greeted by a huge parade of villagers led by Zalkaribai. He continues to live peacefully among the citizens strategizing to reclaim the throne.

The Indian Mutiny of 1857 reached Jhansi where revolutionaries led by Sangram Singh killed General Gordon and his officers; He then tries to kill his children and wife but his efforts are foiled by Lakshmibai. She plans to conquer the throne of Jhansi while Sangram Singh and his men join the rebellion in Delhi. The East India Company requests the British government to appoint Sir Hugh Rose to resolve the situation and depose Lakshmibai permanently. Knowing very well that she would soon be attacked again, Lakshmibai began training her army and especially the women to fight. Lakshmibai raised an army of 20,000 soldiers and in 1858 the Pathans joined her. During the siege of Jhansi, Lakshmibai bravely stepped into the battlefield to destroy the British cannons strategically placed in front of the temple.

The strong walls of the fort keep Lakshmibai and her army at bay until Sadashiv Rao reveals secrets about the fort to the British, who eventually break the siege and manage to storm the keep, resulting in the death of 'Gau-Baba'. Bearing a striking resemblance to Lakshmibai, Jhalkaribai pretends to be the queen despite knowing that she is pregnant. He manages to distract the British army so that Lakshmibai can escape the fort safely with Damodar. Zhalkaribai sacrificed herself in a massive gunpowder explosion, killing a number of British officers along with her. Lakshmibai flees to Kalpi to reunite with Tatya Tope and other companions. She captured and conquered the kingdom of Gwalior
