Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook), the over 1000-year-old Gumiho and former guardian mountain spirit of Baekdu-daegon, is now a resident of the city. He works with Taluipa (Kim Jung-nan), an agent of the Afterlife Immigration Office and guardian of the Samdo River, working to eradicate supernatural creatures that threaten the mortal world. Ji-ah recognizes Yeon as he is leaving the venue and later spots him on camera through his red, clearly marked umbrella. She discovers where Yeon lives, suspecting him of being supernatural, and eventually tests her theory by jumping out of his flat with a memory chip that contains a video of Yeon fighting with another fox (Lee Rang, her half-brother) with their powers. is She has Yeon to follow and protect her. It is then revealed that as a child, on her ninth birthday, Nam Ji-ah was involved in a road accident in which her parents are believed to have died. However, Ji-ah is the only one who remembers that two other people, not humans, stand as her parents. They were foxes trying to eat Ji-ah but she was saved by Lee Yeon. The titular Gumiho (the nine-tailed fox). Former mountain spirit and guardian of Baekdudegan, lover of Ah-eum/Ji-ah and half-brother of Lee Rang. He undertakes a mission from the Afterlife Immigration Office while searching for Ah-im's reincarnation. He faced many looks like Ah-im, but no one took the fox's bead. He saved Ji-ah when she was young, but he doesn't have the fox bead, leading Yeon to believe that he is not Ah-im's reincarnation. Later in the series, it is revealed that Ji-ah is actually the reincarnation of Ah-im. His fox bead appeared when Li Yeon saved him from falling off the building.
