Jarrod and Elaine go on a getaway trip to Southern California to visit a friend named Terry. Their vacation quickly turns into a terrifying weekend of terror, when an alien invasion follows a night of hypnotizing strange lights in the sky. What begins as a city under attack, quickly becomes a worldwide takeover. When the city is under attack and thousands of terrified people are abducted aboard ships, Jarrod and Elaine work together with their colleagues to avoid the impending global genocide. Movira
During an alien invasion, Detective Mark Corley braves a war zone and infiltrates their ships, while his estranged son Trent is kidnapped. After entering the spacecraft, Corley joins some unlikely allies in his rescue efforts. Aboard the ship, Corley learns that the aliens are ripening the humans for their brain power. In his quest, he finds the aid of a friendly alien lifeform, which turns out to be a living embodiment of Jarrod's intelligence. As Elaine dies giving birth to their daughter, Jarrod and Detective Corley work together to free Trent and escape the spaceship, while protecting the newborn from its otherworldly inhabitants. During the ensuing battle, Trent is overpowered and his mind manipulated by one of the aliens. When a flying saucer crash-lands in Southeast Asia, the team must form an alliance with a small group of survivors to take back the planet. Meanwhile, it is discovered that exposure to DNA altering technology has left baby Rose, who is rapidly aging, with enhanced powers and abilities that may be key to defeating the planetary invaders. After years of working together, a virus from another planet begins to turn the human-alien-hybrids against their fellow forces. Captain Rose Corley, who has alien-enhanced DNA and has reached adulthood, forms a team to venture to the extraterrestrial home world. The team works together to find a cure for this unknown disease outbreak and prevent all-out war on Earth once again. As they fight for survival, Rose takes advantage of her otherworldly knowledge to defeat the enemy and restore the peace that once existed.
Skyline, which the filmmaker said was limited by a small budget, aimed more like found-footage horror. The creatives involved intended to depict an actual real-world alien invasion. Along with an extensive post-production process, the project included extensive CGI special effects, where most of the budget was spent. Movie Review
O'Donnell said that with the second film, Beyond Skyline, all the creative people involved intend to fill in areas that were lacking in the first film. The filmmaker stated that he intentionally used experimental effects as often as possible to give the alien characters more personality and interaction with each actor. It was conceived as "John McClane.. in an alien invasion scenario", with the intention of introducing a higher level of action sequences. The film has been compared to The Raid, with fight choreography inspired by the martial arts film genre.
