Cybertron is a planet populated by sentient robots fueled by a substance called energon and equipped with transformation cogs, devices that allow them to transform into vehicles. In Icon City, Orion Pax, a cogless mining robot, sneaks into an archive and watches a documentary on the Primes, the first Cybertronians created directly by their creator Primus. Security guards capture Orion, but his best friend D-16 saves him. Later, a cave-in occurs in the Energon mine where the two work, trapping fellow miner Jazz. The four eventually find the defunct Trion along with the corpses of the other Primes. Upon reactivation, he reveals that the Sentinel betrayed Primes to steal the Matrix from him, failing which he denies it and disappears. In truth, the Sentinel created the mining class by removing their cogs prior to Energon's activation in exchange for allowing the aliens invading Quintesson to rule Cybertron. Trion provides the group with cogs, allowing them to mutate, and a chip carrying evidence of the Sentinel's treason. Sentinel and his forces then arrive, capture and kill Tryon. Download Movie
Sentinel Prime, the leader of Cybertron, returns from an expedition to the planet's surface to find the lost Matrix of Leadership, the absence of which caused the energon to stop flowing; Thus the miners are forced to extract it. Despite being unable to find it, he organizes a race to recover the population. To prove himself superior to the Miners, Orion illegally infiltrates himself and D-16 using a jet pack but they lose. When Sentinel promises to reward them for fueling their mining passion, Darkwing lures the two to a waste incinerator, where they meet the eccentric B-127. Alpha Trion, one of the Primes, finds a chip in the junk containing a distress message from Orion, Orion convinces D-16 and B-127 to accompany him to his coordinates on the surface; They also convince Alita to join when they catch him hitchhiking on a cargo train.
Evading their pursuers, the team returns to Icon to expose the Sentinel but are captured by the High Guard, former Warbots of the Primes rebelling against the Sentinel. When D-16 takes command of the High Guard after defeating their leader, Starscream, Orion becomes concerned about his friend's increasing aggression after learning the truth. Sentinel's forces find them, and in the ensuing battle, D-16, B-127 and half of the High Guard are captured while the evidence chip is destroyed. Movie Review

Orion, encouraged by Elita, rallies the remaining High Guard members and returns to Ikon to save their comrades. Once there, Orion convinces the miners to revolt while Aelita exposes the Sentinel by broadcasting her lieutenant Arkanid's memory recordings throughout the city. After the Sentinel is defeated, Orion and D-16 argue over whether to execute him, and in the resulting scuffle the latter accidentally shoots his friend. Although initially horrified, D-16 eventually allows Orion to fall to his death. D-16 kills the Sentinel, removes Megatronus' cog, and now calling himself "Megatron", orders the High Guard to destroy the icon.
