In 1983, teenagers Martin Asher and Matt Soulsby meet on a bus to Mont-Laurier, Quebec. The bus breaks down, and the two get into a car, which soon gets a flat tire. As Matt changes the tire, Martin remarks that they are about the same height, and kicks him into the path of an oncoming truck, killing Matt and the driver. Twenty-one years later, FBI profiler Ileana Scott is called by Inspector LeClair to help Montreal authorities catch a serial killer who has assumed the identities of his victims, allowing him to travel across North America undetected. Ileana interviews art dealer James Costa, a witness to the killer's most recent murder. James paints a portrait of the killer and the authorities search the suspect's apartment, which contains a decomposing body chained to the ceiling. Martin's mother Rebecca claims to have seen her son - presumed dead at the Met's location years ago - alive on a ferry to Quebec City, leading Martin to bury the body as it was exhumed for forensic examination and becoming the primary suspect. At Rebecca's house, Illiana asks her questions about her son, learning that Martin was an unwanted child who became unstable after the death of his beloved twin brother. Illiana finds a hidden passage behind a cabinet that leads to Martin's secret room, where she is attacked by a hidden assailant, who escapes before she can recognize him. Download Movie
James visits Ileana's hotel room, where after they grow close during the investigation, they make passionate love surrounded by photos of the gruesome crime scene. Ileana awakens to find herself covered in James' blood, but has only popped the stitches she received after the car chase.
Ileana deduces that Asher targets his victims to live as someone different from himself, and after vandalizing his apartment, his latest target is James. James is used in a sting operation to lure Asher, but the trap fails. During a show at his gallery, James is attacked by an assailant, believed to be Asher, who Ileana tries to apprehend but is lost in the crowd. The police prepare to move James out of town, but are confronted by the assailant, who attacks him and kills his police escort before taking James at gunpoint. Ileana gives chase, and James manages to escape, causing a car crash and explosion. Movie Review
While James' stitches are being repaired at the hospital, Illiana is called to the morgue, where Rebecca is unable to identify the burned body of the attacker, and Illiana realizes that Asher must still be alive. Before Illiana can reach her, Rebecca enters the elevator and is confronted by James, who reveals himself to be the real Martin Asher. He kills her mother, and Illiana is shocked to see him covered in blood before the elevator doors close again, and she flees the hospital. The police determine that the attacker killed during the car chase was Christopher Hart, a drug addict and art thief from whom Asher was extorting money. In a struggle in his apartment, Asher kills Hart and takes him hostage. Pursued by the police, Asher escapes by train and chooses his next victim, taunting Ileana over the phone before disappearing. Ileana is fired from the FBI after having consensual sex with Asher.
Seven months later, Illiana lives alone in a deserted farmhouse in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, apparently heavily pregnant with Asher's twins. She is confronted by Asher, who declares that they can start over and live together as a family, but Illiana refuses. Enraged, Asher beats her and prepares to knock her unconscious, snatching a pair of scissors from her when she defends herself and stabbing her in the stomach. Illiana removes her artificial pregnant belly by stabbing Asher in the heart with the same scissors, explaining that the previous months were a carefully planned trap. Asher dies, and Illiana informs LeClair that the ordeal is over.
